| 释义 | hardly /'ho: dli; 'hardli/ adv 1 only just; not quite; scarcely: 刚刚; 不十分; 简直没有： I ~ know her, have only a very slight acquaintance with her. 我跟她不熟。 We had ~ got/H~ had we got into the country when it began to rain. 我们刚到乡间就下雨了。 (Cf 参较 No sooner... than). I'm so tired I can ~ walk. 我太累，简直走不动了。 2 (used to suggest that sth is improbable, unlikely or unreasonable) : (用以表示某事大廃不会发生或不合理)： He can ~ have arrived yet. 他大槪还没有到。 You can ~ expect me to lend you money again. 你别希望我再借钱给你。 3 (neg in meaning) almost no; almost not: (否定意义) 几乎没有; 几乎不： He ~ ever (- very seldom) goes td bed before midnight. 他很少在午夜以前就寝。 Cf 参较 His wife almost always goes to bed before midnight. 他的妻子几乎总是在午夜以前就寝。 I need ~ say (= It is almost unnecessary for me to say) that I am innocent. 我几乎用不着说我是无罪的。 There's ~ any coal left. 几乎没有煤剩下了。 H ~ anybody (= Very few people) came to the meeting. 几乎没有人到会。 4 (from hard (4)) severely: (由 hard' 第 4 义而来) 严旗地： ~ treated. 受严苛对待。 5 (from hard (6)) with effort or difficulty. [ 由 hard1 第 6 义而永) 辛苦地。 For this sense the adv 'hard' is usu preferred. 指此义时，通常多用副词 ’hard'。(Cf 参较 hard-earned money 辛苦赚来的钱 and salary that was ~ (ie only just, barely) earned. 仅仅能够赚到的薪水; 勉强赚到的薪水) 。 |
